February 5, 2008 - West Jet Reports Record January Load Factor of 76.2 Per Cent
West Jet's strong results continue with thirteen straight months of record load factor. West Jet (TSX:WJA) today announced January traffic results with a record load factor of 76.2 per cent. This was accompanied by a capacity increase of 15.7 per cent, measured in available seat miles, and an improvement in West Jet's revenue passenger miles of 16.2 per cent.
August 15, 2007 - West Jet adds service to Mazatlan
West Jet is off to Mexico with the introduction of seasonal non-stop service to two new destinations -- Mazatlan and San Jose del Cabo/Cabo San Lucas. These new sun destinations are part of West Jetís enhanced winter schedule that also includes the addition of a new seasonal non-stop route from Vancouver to Kona, Hawaii. These announcements are part of West Jetís expansion plans to fly to over 60 destinations by 2013, said West Jet executive VP Bob Cummings. In three short years, West Jet has grown to 18 sun destinations offering guests across Canada the opportunity to travel south in the winter. West Jet also recently announced the addition of three new Caribbean destinations -- Montego Bay, Puerto Plata and Punta Cana.
August 2, 2007 - West Jet makes lots of money flying but big res write-down cuts second quarter profit
A huge write-down on a new reservations system cut into West Jet second quarter profits as the Calgary-based carrier announced net earnings of $11.5 million. West Jet reported earnings of $22.4 million in the same period last year. West Jetís year-to-date net earnings were a record $41.4 million compared to $35.2 million in the same period of 2006, an increase of over 17%
August 1, 2007 - West Jet buying 20 new Boeing 737s
West Jet purchases aircraft in anticipation of growth over the next five years
This morning, West Jet announced the signing of an agreement with Boeing to purchase 20 Boeing 737 Next-Generation aircraft. Fourteen aircraft will be delivered to West Jet in 2012, with an additional six in 2013. Ken McKenzie, West Jet Executive Vice-President, Operations commented, "Consumer demand for West Jet continues to grow. We have had a significant impact on the North American airline industry and require these additional aircraft to satisfy the demands of West Jet guests for our services in Canada, the United States, the Caribbean and Mexico."
